Director of Community Services Cody Maberry provided an update on the $30 million project during a work session that followed the Oct. 15 city council meeting.
The big picture
Maberry said there had to be some adjustments to the timeline since overhead electric lines had to be buried underground; the city is working with Tri-County Electric Co-op on the project. Due to that, the work on the splash pad has been pushed back.
While the city waited for easements and for the lines to be buried, work started on the rodeo arena, soccer field and restroom renovations to keep the project on the same timeline. Maberry said the construction schedule has been rearranged to keep the park completion on track.
He said the project should be done by the end of next year with a ribbon cutting planned for January 2026.
The outlook
Maberry provided a timeline for some of the projects, which started after the groundbreaking in February.
- February 2025: Rodeo arena, soccer and lacrosse field completed
- April 2025: Field house, two multipurpose fields completed
- Late spring 2025: Rugby fields completed
- May 2025: Work on the existing fourplex field
- Early summer 2025: Equestrian arena completed
- October 2025: Road work inside Keller Sports Park finished
- November 2025: Baseball and softball fields completed
- December 2025: Project mostly complete, facilities and ballfields in use
- January 2026: Splash pad completed
- January 2026: Keller Sports Park ribbon cutting
About $28 million of the $30.9 million project comes primarily from certificates of obligation that will be repaid by the Keller Development Corp.’s sales tax revenue. Certificates of obligation are a type of debt issuance that—unlike general obligation bonds—generally do not require voter approval.
