The Roanoke City Council approved a permit to allow a new live-work development in Roanoke at the July 26 meeting.

The new development, called Magnolia on Main, is proposed to include 42 residential units, eight live-work units and 6,300 square feet of retail space along Highway 377, according to a meeting document.

The parking plan for Magnolia on Main includes 61 off-street parking spaces: 28 of the spaces will be covered parking spaces, and 33 will be uncovered.

A time frame has yet to be determined for this project.

Council also approved two zoning changes in relation to this new development in Old Town Roanoke.


Council approved a change to the maximum height of buildings from two stories to four stories for lots 7R and 15R, Block 12 of the original town of Roanoke addition located on Hwy. 377 west of Oak Street between Main and Rusk streets, according to a meeting document.

In addition, council approved a zoning change to allow live-work units at the same location.
