The city of Keller presented $2.2 million in capital projects at its July 19 council meeting that are proposed in the 2022-23 fiscal year budget for the city’s Development Corporation.

The budget will be adopted by City Council as part of its overall budget, which is set to be voted on in September.

The project with the largest expense, about $700,000, is a new public water feature. This water feature could be a splash pad, Cody Maberry, director of Community Services, said during the presentation.

The location for this project has not been decided. However, potential locations could include the fountain at Town Hall, Maberry said.

“We want to do something to change it up, how it looks, make it more interactive,” Maberry said.

The budget also has $400,000 in proposed park improvements and new city amenities, including pickleball courts, shade structures, grills, picnic tables, water fountains and benches at Bear Creek Park, according to the presentation.

Staff is looking to spend about $332,750 to construct new trails or repair existing ones, though specific locations have not been identified.

Per a 2022 citizen survey, the trails system was the highest ranked amenity in Keller, according to the presentation.

The city is also looking to spend about $150,000 to replace the playground at The Parks at Town Center. The existing playground is 17 years old.

Other projects include parking lot improvements at Keller Sports Park, replacement of maintenance equipment and the creation of a new concept plan for Northeast Park.

The Keller Development Corporation is funded primarily through city sales tax revenue.
