According to the city’s March 4 newsletter, the police department is scheduled for an assessment by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc., as part of its accreditation process in late March.
CALEA’s national accreditation program requires agencies to comply with standards in four areas—policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services, the newsletter states.
As part of CALEA’s on-site assessment, agency employees and community members can give feedback to the assessment team, according to the newsletter. The in-person public information session will take place at 6 p.m. on March 21 at Keller Town Hall—1100 Bear Creek Parkway in Keller.
However, those unable to attend the in-person session can still give comments to CALEA’s assessment team from 1-3 p.m. on March 21 by calling 769-969-9184 for the law enforcement assessment or 817-743-4599 for the communications—or 911 dispatch—assessment, the newsletter states.
Feedback given in person or over the phone is limited to 10 minutes and has to address the police department’s abilities to comply with CALEA’s standards, which can be reviewed by calling the Keller Police Department’s Professional Standard Unit at 817-743-4543, according to the newsletter.
The newsletter states that those who want to give written comments instead can send them to the following address: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Services Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Blvd., Ste. 320, Gainesville, Virginia 20155. Another option for written feedback is to submit it to CALEA’s contact form by clicking here.
The Keller Police Department first earned its CALEA accreditation in 2006, and the police department’s emergency dispatchers earned their own accreditation in 2018, which made it “the first regional dispatch in Texas to meet the commission’s standards,” the newsletter states.
