In a move marking a new chapter for the company after significant struggles, self-driving trucking company TuSimple rebranded as CreateAI Dec.19.

The new company, which has a presence in AllianceTexas, will focus on AI gaming and animation technology.

The details

CEO Cheng Lu said the move represents a natural evolution of the company's capabilities.

According to a company news release, the move comes after two years of regulatory setbacks and other challenges, including:
  • U.S. regulators began probing its Chinese connections in 2022, triggering boardroom disputes
  • Delisting from the Nasdaq Stock Market earlier this year, fewer than three years after raising $1.35 billion in an April 2021 initial public offering
  • A dispute over its U.S. assets, including $450 million in cash reserves
What else?

The news release states CreateAI will focus on video game and anime production. In addition, it will be involved in publishing by leveraging its newly developed image-to-video AI model, Ruyi, for content development.

The company has 270 employees across China, Japan and the United States, per the release.
