A one-alarm fire at The 206 food hall on Oak Street in Roanoke has delayed the opening of J. Merrill Cigar Lounge.

According to a Roanoke Fire Department Facebook post, the Roanoke Fire Department and area mutual aid partners responded to the fire on Sept. 12. Dispatch received a call regarding the fire just after noon and the fire was declared under control after 1 p.m.

The Facebook post states while the official cause of the fire remains under investigation, it is believed that it may have started near some construction at the backside of the business. No injuries were reported.

J. Merrill Cigar Lounge, which is located toward the rear of the building, was slated to open in the first part of September. According to an email from owner Lee Youngblood, the fire has delayed the opening of the business.

“We are waiting on insurance approval to move forward with the final stages of construction,” Youngblood said in the email.
