Tammy Hamilton said she can trace her bent toward interior design back to her childhood.

“I was always aware of my surroundings,” she said. “I remember when people would come to our house, my mom would say, ‘You have to see Tammy’s room.’ Like it was so special.”

Eventually she became a receptionist, but during a doctor’s appointment her trajectory was changed.

“He [the doctor] asked if I was good at housecleaning. He hired me, and I started a cleaning business. I did that for 13 years and people loved me because I also decorated; I’d move their stuff around,” Hamilton said. “A lot of my first interior design and remodeling clients were my cleaning customers.”

The details

In 2003 she started her own interior design business, which she ran from her house. In 2014, she opened her first brick-and-mortar location on in Keller Town Center and named the business The Design Studio.

When people walk into The Design Studio, they have a variety of end-goals. Some buy interior design items, while others meet with a designer to discuss what they want done at their house or business, and some are there to peruse interior design samples, such as flooring and tile.

Hamilton said she goes to Dallas Market Center to purchase items for her showroom, and she encourages local artists to display their work here.

The inspiration

When meeting with clients at their complimentary in-home consultation, Hamilton prioritizes discovering their style preference, such as traditional, eclectic, rustic and more.

Services they provide include remodeling, 3D design and renderings, and home decorating.

She said impacting people in a positive way brings her joy.

“We took an attic that was rafters and made it two bedrooms and a bathroom, and changed the garage into a game room,” Hamilton said. “Seeing that 14-year-old boy so happy that he finally got his own room made me happy.”
