Code Wiz, a nationally recognized child education franchise committed to transforming the way that kids engage with technology, opened its newest location May 21 at 790 S. Main St., Ste. 409, Keller.

The overview

Owner Juan Duarte said that he’s truly excited to inspire the next generation of tinkers and makers.

“It’s a dream come true,” Duarte said. “One of the happiest moments has been watching the loom videos the kids make. This is where they show off the project they have worked on, which we send to parents at the end of the month or after a summer camp with a progress report.”

Some of the most popular classes so far are Roblox, Minecraft, robotics and Python—which is a general purpose computer coding language. For foundational coding classes, Duarte said that he works with field experts to develop the curriculum. What the kids work on in the project-based classes comes from the kids’ and coaches’ imagination.

“I’m always blown away by their creativity and excitement,” Duarte said. “I’m also extremely proud of our coaches [and how] they go out of their way to make the kids’ experience the best it can possibly be. They’re the best.”

The details

Code Wiz works with kids ages 7 to 17, and there are three different learning paths, what Duarte called verticals. They include:
  • Game design vertical
  • Fundamental coding vertical
  • Robotics vertical
No matter what vertical kids choose, they will get the opportunity to build programs from scratch, according to Duarte, and graduate to progressively more challenging coding platforms along the way.
