In an effort to reduce its carbon footprint and ease utility bills, Tanger Outlets Fort Worth is nearing completion of its solar panel installation project.

The shopping mall features designer and brand-name outlet stores and is located at 15853 I-35 W., in Fort Worth.

“In total, the system is 1.98 megawatt in size,” according to a Tanger spokesperson. “It reduces our consumption of grid power and allows us to provide blended green power to our tenants.”

Groups of solar panels, called arrays, will be mounted on various rooftops throughout the property and on a newly created shaded parking structure. The installation is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2022, according to a spokesperson.

A typical 2-megawatt system could generate enough electricity to power more than 200 homes annually, according to Rochester Institute of Technology.

More than 60% of U.S. solar panels were built and installed during the past three years, according to Rochester Institute of Technology. 817-464-5400. www.tangeroutlet.com/fortworth
