Keller officials approved a Specific Use Permit, or SUP, for a new indoor entertainment playground at a regular city council meeting Nov. 18.

The business was approved 6-1 with all but Mayor Armin Mizani voting in support.

The details

The proposed playground, Stay N’ Play, is for children ages 6 and under, according to city documents. The facility will have play structures and interactive zones for children and seating areas for parents.

The business will also provide a space to host events like birthday parties, social gatherings and educational workshops, which can be scheduled by customers online, according to documents.

Council members shared concerns about the compatibility Stay N’ Play would have with nearby Aquario Italian Restaurant.

“It’s ironic because sometimes, businesses like [Stay N’ Play] actually brings more foot traffic to an area that needs help, that needs assistance,” Mizani said. “But Aquario is a very successful restaurant here in Keller and that’s why they’re opening a second location.”

Mayor Pro Tem Ross McMullin said the potential negative impacts to Aquario Italian Restaurant would exist regardless of if Stay N’ Play opened in that location.

“This occupant presents much less risk than some, maybe even more lucrative potential applicants,” McMullin said. “I think some of the potential uses are just not going to be a realistic fit. But I think some of them could be a huge disruption to Aquario.”

The background

The Keller location will be Stay N’ Play' second; a Flower Mound-based business opened in 2023. Council members previously tabled the SUP at a regular meeting Nov. 4 due to noise concerns for Aquario Italian Restaurant.
