The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch from 1:45-8 p.m. May 29 for parts of North Texas, including Tarrant County. Earlier, officials reported a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado and hail located over Saginaw, which is west of Grapevine, Colleyville and Southlake. A tornado warning was placed until 1:45 p.m. All Carroll and Grapevine-Colleyville ISD campuses took students to shelter in place for the tornado warning, according to notifications from the two school districts.
Shelter in place is a standard safety protocol used for situations that include tornadoes and usually involves evacuating to a designated shelter area and sealing the room, according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The city of Colleyville activated its sirens and are advising residents to be weather aware. Forecasts suggest thunderstorms may continue after 5 p.m. Some storms may bring wind as high as 85 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service. The Dallas-Fort Worth area may see 0.5-1 inch in rainfall. City officials are advising the community to drive cautiously and remain indoors if possible.
