Starting July 1, the North Texas Tollway Authority will raise toll rates an average of 1 cent per mile.

The rate increase will go from 21 cents to 22 cents per mile, while the pay-by-mail rate will be double the TollTag rate.

The breakdown

This toll rate increase will help NTTA repay approximately $8.8 billion in toll bonds used to construct toll roads. The rate increase also helps fund future improvements included in the NTTA five-year capital plan, including the current extension of the Dallas North Tollway and Chisholm Trail Parkway. Only drivers who choose to use NTTA roads pay tolls, according to a news release.

NTTA owns and operates the Dallas North Tollway, President George Bush Turnpike, Sam Rayburn Tollway, Addison Airport Toll Tunnel, Lewisville Lake Toll Bridge, Mountain Creek Lake Bridge, Chisholm Trail Parkway and SH 360 Tollway, according to its website.

In their own words

“Each year, we serve more than 14 million customers through safe, well-maintained roads, which bring significant economic growth and development to our region,” NTTA board chairman Scott Levine said in a news release. “As always, the best option for every customer is to maintain a TollTag account to receive the lowest rate with the most convenience on toll roads.”

Going forward

Crews will be updating toll rate road signs in the coming weeks to show the new costs of the roads, according to a news release.
