Colleyville City Council unanimously approved a highway safety improvement project along John McCain Road during the Sept. 4 meeting.

The overview

The project will span from a quarter of a mile west of Monticello Parkway to .03 miles west of Monticello Parkway. Public Works Director Amber Beard reported at the meeting that accidents along that stretch of highway have happened in the past near a narrow culvert. The project will consist of various safety improvements, including:
  • New signage
  • Widened shoulders
  • Improved pavement markings
  • Culvert and headwall replacement
In addition, John McCain Road will be realigned with a new curb, gutter and pavement.

Project funding

The estimated cost of the project is $444,266 and includes federal funding of $340,710. The city agreed to pay the remaining portion of $103,556. Colleyville officials also received $150,000 from Tarrant County Commissioner Gary Fickes for the project. The city agreed to pay any cost overruns that may occur.

Moving forward

The construction is set to begin in fiscal year 2026 and will involve road closures that will shift traffic over a lane. Restriping the new path will occur prior to the start of construction
