Two school zones in Southlake will be extended this fall.

The Southlake City Council approved a request for extension of existing school zones at Carroll Senior High School and Florence Elementary School—part of Keller ISD—during the Sept. 17 meeting.

What’s happening?

The change near Carroll Senior High School will be from the 100 block of S. Peytonville Avenue through the 600 block of S. Peytonville Avenue.

For Florence Elementary School, the change will happen in the 100 block of Harrell Drive to the intersection with Johnson Road, according to city documents.

In both areas, the speed limit will be 20 miles per hour, according to Public Works Director Robert Cohen.

The background

As part of the traffic study completed by the Kimley-Horn engineering firm in June, Carroll Senior High School’s southern school flasher was recommended to be moved 750 feet to the end of the Kingsley Court/S. Peytonville Avenue crosswalk.

Cohen said it will cost $6,000 to make this change and that there would be no cost of the Florence Elementary change since it was extended 500 feet in 2021. This amendment would make violations in the area enforceable, he said.

The changes will be done when school is on a break later this year, according to city officials.
