The U.S. Customs and Border Protection has opened a new facility inside Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

The Centralized Examination Station building is the first in the United States that will allow CBP to inspect cargo, streamline the clearance process and speed up the flow of goods, according to a news release.

In fiscal year 2019-20, DFW Airport processed 16,000 international e-commerce clearances and increased to 20 million packages in fiscal year 2022-23.

In the first half of fiscal year 2023-24, that number has already exceeded 23 million packages, according to a news release.

The new building was a partnership between CBP, DFW Airport and dnata Cargo USA.

“This ambitious venture with dnata Cargo USA and DFW supports a strong economy and gives the Area Port of Dallas the cargo processing space to consolidate CBP enforcement efforts and the unprecedented volume of international E-commerce shipments,” CBP Dallas Area Port Director Jayson Ahern said in a news release. “These streamlined efforts allow CBP to better leverage our resources and manpower while ensuring we fulfill our national security mission. We are better suited to process legitimate cargo while protecting American businesses and consumers by intercepting illicit and possibly unsafe goods. This is at the core of CBP’s mission.”
