Fairway Drive will remain closed to public traffic indefinitely, according to an Army Corps of Engineers news release sent Jan. 30. Only authorized persons and vehicles will have access to accomplish Corps missions.
Fairway Drive across Grapevine Dam has been closed since August due to a slide at the dam. The Corps is in the process of repairing the slide and had intended to close the road during the construction phase only. But when heavy rainfall at the end of the summer hit the dam, the Corps noticed potentially dangerous conditions on the road, the release said.
"Ongoing investigations of the road condition are being conducted to determine the level of repair needed for safe vehicular traffic use," the Corps stated. "Currently, there is no estimated timeframe for reopening of Fairway Drive to the public."
Crews continue to work on the repair of the dam's embankment slope in the meantime. The repair has affected a segment of guardrail and road, and site conditions and weather have caused delays, according to the release. The repair of the slope is expected to finish this summer.
Access to Grapevine Golf Course and Rockledge Park will only be allowed from the north. Drivers seeking access from SH 26 will be detoured to FM 2499/International Parkway.
Access from the south will only be granted to drivers going to Silver Lake Marina and Cowboys Golf Club. No through traffic will be allowed from SH 26.
The city of Grapevine will provide electronic message boards on SH 26 alerting drivers to any updates.
