Trinity Metro's commuter rail line TEXRail has gained the necessary clearance to operate, with full service expected to start on Thursday, Jan. 10, five days later than originally planned.

TEXRail was originally scheduled to begin passenger travel Jan. 5 with service along a 27-mile route between downtown Fort Worth and the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. TEXRail operations were postponed indefinitely following an announcement late Jan. 4.

A Trinity Metro news release cited a problem with the train signals, which had been caused by a hardware installation problem. Crews are testing each piece of hardware to ensure components are working correctly before service begins, the news release stated.

“We greatly appreciate all of the efforts to move TEXRail from the testing phase to full service by all of the personnel at (Federal Railroad Administration)," Trinity Metro President and CEO Paul Ballard said in a statement.

He credited the Federal Railroad Administration for its work during a partial federal government shutdown, which resulted in a short-handed crew.

Passengers can ride the trains free of charge for the entire month of January. To find out more information about TEXRail, click here.
