The Grapevine City Council approved a special use permit during the Sept. 16 meeting for the church that is currently based in Irving.
The permit approved was to allow a 185-seat church into the former Luv 2 Play indoor playground space in a community commercial district.
Rev. Jared Patterson said the church has signed a three-year lease, which was contingent on the city approving the special permit and the certificate of occupancy being issued by the city.
Part of the permit is the church sharing parking with Hobby Lobby.
City code requires 62 parking spots, but the immediate area has only 50. Patterson said Hobby Lobby graciously allowed for the use of their lot on Sundays, a day it is closed.
The background
Patterson said the church started as The Assembly of God Tabernacle in 1963 in Irving. In May of this year, the church sold its building in the Las Colinas area of Irving. The temporary meeting location is at 8051 Jetstar Drive in Irving.
“We have members that live in the city, members that live in Colleyville and the [Hurst, Euless and Bedford] area,” Patterson said. “Grapevine was right in the center of our congregants, where they live, so we know this is the perfect location. It's only about eight miles or so from our previous facility. Also, Grapevine has a great reputation for a family atmosphere and environment. We thought it would be a perfect marriage between the two.”
The setup
Patterson said the services in Grapevine will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sundays; from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
The church business office hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Friday, he said.
He said that before the church opens, work needs to be done on the plumbing, HVAC, sprinklers and lighting. There is no opening date yet, according to the church website.
“I do want to say we're just looking forward to the opportunity to being in the community,” he said. “We want long-term roots here.”
