Leah M. King is making the move from leading one Tarrant County nonprofit to another.

The United Way of Tarrant County announced that King, the president and CEO, submitted her resignation and her last day will be Oct. 23.

King will become the president of the JPS Foundation, according to a news release.

"I am thrilled to have been selected to lead the JPS Foundation during this time of unprecedented growth in our community," King said in a press release. "I have always been deeply passionate about healthcare and its power to transform lives and am honored to have the opportunity to work alongside the dedicated professionals at JPS Health Network. I look forward to supporting the team in its efforts to advance healthcare delivery for this community.”

King has been with United Way of Tarrant County since 2016 and was appointed president and CEO in November 2019. She also serves as president of the board of directors at Tarrant Regional Water District.

Under her guidance at United Way of Tarrant County, she helped launch Get United, a campaign to celebrate the nonprofit’s 100th anniversary. The $100 million campaign looked to help a county that features 41% of people residing at or below the poverty line, according to the United Way website.




Some of the focal points include community health, financial empowerment, education and learning, maternal health, youth gun violence prevention and public transportation, per the website.

The JPS Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising money to provide goods and services to JPS Health Network, according to its website.

JPS Health Network is a taxpayer-supported hospital district in Tarrant County. The JPS Foundation helps bridge the gap between government funding and additional resources needed for high-quality patient care, according to the website.




Shannon Fletcher, vice president and Chief of Staff at JPS Health Network, has been acting as the interim president of the JPS Foundation, according to a news release.

United Way of Tarrant County will launch a search to find a replacement for King. An interim CEO will be named soon, according to a news release.
