On Tuesday night Colleyville City Council approved an Interlocal Agreement with Tarrant County to rehabilitate Bedford and Cheek-Sparger roads.
With the approval of the Interlocal Agreement, Tarrant County will provide the labor and equipment necessary to rehabilitate the roadways and the city will be responsible for the costs associated with the following items: removal of excess materials, new materials, construction materials testing, traffic control (including barricades to redirect traffic flow to alternate lanes during the construction) and disposal fees at an off-site landfill facility for waste materials generated during the project.
Cheek-Sparger
Cheek-Sparger Road will be rehabilitated, widened and resurfaced from Brown Trail to Bedford. City officials said work is expected to start in late October or early November. The project is estimated to take 8-10 weeks. During construction the main lanes will remain open, however, the turn lanes will not be accessible.
Bedford
Bedford Road will be repaired and resurfaced from the Little Bear Creek bridge to Cheek-Sparger Road. City officials said the work is expected to begin spring 2017 and take 2 weeks to complete, weather permitting.
The agreement with Tarrant County allows for the rehabilitation of the streets without the city incurring the full cost of the project. The overall value of the proposed street improvements included in this agreement is approximately $1,360,000, with the city's share of the cost for materials, milling, testing and traffic control estimated to be $817,000. By utilizing the agreement to perform this work, the city is saving approximately 40 percent, versus the same work being performed by a contractor hired directly by the city.
Tarrant County commissioners are set to approve the agreement Oct. 25.
