The town of Trophy Club is inching closer to the switch from Republic Services to Community Waste Disposal for trash and recycling pickup.

The official switch date will be June 1. During the April 14 council meeting, services prices for CWD were approved.

Town Manager Brandon Wright provided additional information on recycling, hazardous waste and leaf pickup.

The context

The initial contract with CWD is for five years with the option for five additional one-year renewals, according to previous reporting.

The first year of the contract will feature residential rates for $25.71 per month with an option to receive a 95-gallon recycling cart for an additional $3.41. According to city documents, that is an increase of $5.16 for trash pickup/recycling or $8.57 more for trash pickup/recycling with the 95-gallon bin.

Bulk collection will happen each week, with the first four cubic yards free, Wright said. CWD will also offer seasonal leaf pickup, monthly door-side hazardous waste pickup and curbside Christmas tree recycling.

Commercial rates start at $35.24 per month for once-a-week pickup, an increase of $12.56 from the current provider, according to city documents. The CWD rate schedule includes various costs for front-load container pickup based on cubic yards and roll-off bins.
In a nutshell

The city will still receive twice-a-week pickup but the town has been broken down into two trash zones and four recycling zones. One trash pickup option will have service on Mondays and Thursdays and the other zone will be on a Tuesday-Friday schedule, Wright said.

He added each home will receive a new 18-gallon recycling bin with a lid and each house could request up to three bins for free. CWD will provide a pickup schedule and service guide when recycling bins are distributed in town.

Also of note

Republic Services is allowing Trophy residents to keep the blue recycling bins. Wright noted the city will have a roll-off dumpster at HG Supply Co. to recycle the blue Republic Services bin.

Tamara Brown, assistant to the city manager, said that the dumpster will be there from May 25 to June 7. That is the same week CWD is planning on dropping off the green recycling bins, Wright said. CWD was originally set to deliver recycling bins June 2-13, according to previous reporting.

Also on the agenda

As part of the new agreement with CWD having hazardous waste pickup, council voted to end an interlocal agreement with the city of Fort Worth for that same service.

The town has been participating in Fort Worth’s Household Hazardous Waste Program since 2017. The new contract was set to commence June 1. The move will save the city $4,000 annually, based on average participation over the past five years, city documents state.

Residents can schedule hazardous waste pickup services in advance at no additional cost. They will receive a collection kit for the safe packaging and placement of items such as paints, cleaners, oils, batteries and electronic waste, according to city documents.
