Westlake officials opted to cancel its May 3 election since all candidates running for spots on its town council are running unopposed.

What's happening?

Candidates had until 5 p.m. Feb. 14 to sign up to run for Town Council places 1, 2, 3 and 5. According to a Feb. 19 release from the town, since an unopposed application means no other candidates applied for the position up for election, those candidates will automatically be voted in.

Candidates for Town Council Places 1, 3 and 5 will see a term limit that runs from May 2025 to May 2027. Town Council Place 2 is also on the ballot and has an unexpired term through May 2026.

The candidates

John T. "T.J." Duane filed for the Place 1 position, which is currently held by Anna White. She did not file for reelection, according to the city’s website.

Kevin Smith was the only person who filed for the Place 3 position, which is currently held by Town Council member Mike Asselta.

Todd W. Gautier and Michael W. Yackira are the incumbents for Place 2 and Place 4, respectively, and will retain their positions.
