The Tarrant County Commissioners Court voted unanimously Aug. 20 to lower the county’s tax rate to $0.1875 cents per $100 valuation for Tarrant County residents.

The tax rate drops from $0.1945 cents and moves the county below the no-revenue rate, which is the tax rate the county would need to adopt to receive the amount of local property taxes as the previous fiscal year, assuming the same properties are taxed both years.

Tarrant County Judge Tim O'Hare said it's the second year in a row that the no-revenue tax rate has been lowered.

A closer look

The commissioners approved a proposed budget of $846.38 million, a $50.22 million decrease from the previous year's $896.6 million budget, according to a presentation by county budget office staff Aug. 15.

"More property tax relief is on the way for Tarrant County," O’Hare said in a Facebook post.

According to County Administrator Chandler Merritt, the county has either maintained its tax rate or lowered it each year since 2014.
