Heroes Park in Colleyville is in the final design stages, according to a presentation by engineering firm Freese & Nichols.

During the June 18 meeting, representatives from the company presented the 90% design plans and went over any final tweaks needed before coming back to council with the 100% design plan in August.

The details

Plans for the park first came to fruition in early 2023, when a committee was formed. Council first got a glimpse of the plan during a July 2023 meeting.

The cost of the project for the park next to City Hall is sitting at $6.4 million and will be funded through the city’s Capital Improvement Plan, according to numbers presented during the work session. That total does not include nearly $250,000 spent on bronze statues for the park purchased in December 2023.

The park is located in the south lot next to Colleyville City Hall, and it will be a space for city events as well. The plaza will include:
  • Stage pavilion
  • Memorial walls to honor soldiers from World War I and II, the Korean War, Vietnam War and modern wars from 1990 to present
  • Low-entry walls
  • Seating walls
  • Flag poles
  • Removable bollards
  • Benches, trash receptacles and water fountain
  • Bronze statues
  • Eternal flame sculpture
  • Landscaping
What’s next

Council members were presented with options for drainage for the turf/lawn during the meeting and approved the first option, which would allow for the best drainage, according to Mayor Bobby Lindamood.

According to Freese & Nichols' timeline, final plans will be presented and placed for bids in August. According to city officials, council will vote on approval of a contract during the Sept. 17 meeting and if passed, construction could start in late October. The estimated construction time is between nine to 12 months, according to city documents.
