Grapevine Animal Services expects to open the city's newly renovated animal shelter in February or March, though no exact date has been set, according to Grapevine Police Department media manager Amanda McNew.

The previous animal shelter, which opened at the same location in 1992, was demolished in 2019. At 9,664 square feet, the new animal shelter at 500 Shady Brook Drive in Grapevine, is more than three times larger than the old building, according to the project proposal.

Voters approved the $3.9 million project as part of a 2017 bond package. The budget was increased to $5.1 million in 2019, and some of the additional funding shifted from projects approved in the same bond package that came in under budget.

Coppell Animal Services and PetSmart Southlake will continue to coordinate pet adoptions for Grapevine until the city’s new shelter opens.
