Q&A: Burge, Ware face off in Democratic primary for US House District 24

Why are you running for office?

As a Marine Corps veteran and intelligence professional with three overseas combat tours, I was a trusted advisor in the White House Situation Room. I took an oath to defend the constitution and have a heart to serve my community. Both are needed in Congress today.

What are the biggest challenges facing the district?

Affordability. People in our district now lack access to quality healthcare and childcare, rising utility and insurance costs and, most impactful to young families, lack of access to quality public education. The dream of home ownership and entrepreneurship are moving further out of reach for hardworking, honest people.

How do you plan to address these issues?

In Congress, I’ll roll back [President Donald] Trump’s tariffs to ease inflation, expand grants and eligibility for technical skills training and champion public transit that cuts car dependence and attracts jobs. I’ll secure funding to build on Head Start, including universal pre-K access for every child in our district.

What would your top priorities be if you are elected?

Restore congressional authority over tariffs and protect Federal Reserve independence; expand support for small businesses through loan reform, tax relief for households under $400,000 and stronger IRS enforcement; restore ACA subsidies and advance optional universal healthcare, decoupling coverage from employment to boost stability and growth nationwide.

Why are you running for office?

I felt compelled as a father, community leader and combat veteran to uphold and defend the Constitution from all enemies. I’ve been fighting for regular people and against corruption for years, but I can do more good in Congress. I have a shot at bringing real representation to the people.

What are the biggest challenges facing the district?

Affordability, jobs, healthcare and education. These issues are impacting the quality of life of so many in my district. Voters have become apathetic-I want to encourage people to get involved. Together, we can make a difference. Additional challenges are ICE, education costs, home ownership, political extremism and loss of community.

How do you plan to address these issues?

Repeal tariffs and stimulate small businesses and the middle class instead of large corporations. Ban mass purchases of single-family homes. Fully fund schools. I support radical healthcare reforms that put the needs of Americans above corporations. I will fight for comprehensive, compassionate immigration reform and vote to defund ICE.

What would your top priorities be if you are elected?

Stop corruption in the Executive Branch and Congress. Defeat Fascism. Stop ICE! Stop the attacks on education. Fight against White Christian Nationalism. Stop foreign interference in government. Relegislate Campaign Finance/ Citizens United. Improve foreign relations and increase exports. Foster better relationships with neighbors. Invest in community initiatives.
