Two candidates have filed for the Place 7 Grapevine-Colleyville ISD board of trustees position, which will appear on the May ballot.

Place 7 is held by current trustee Mary Humphrey, who will face Darrell Brown.

The final day to register to vote in the May election is April 2. Early voting will run April 20-28, with election day May 2.

Why are you running for office?
With more than 40 years of experience teaching, volunteering and leading in GCISD, I know where we’ve been, and I understand how we got where we are today. I want to lead us through this transition and into a successful future, defined by innovative vision, improved transparency and smart decisions.
What are the biggest challenges facing the district?
With GCISD being a recapture (Robinhood) district, along with state funding not keeping up with inflation, our biggest challenge going forward is creating capacity and sustainability in our budget to protect our future and respect our taxpayers. Unifying our community to work through these issues together is a must.
How do you plan to address these issues?
I will work to operate more efficiently, create and pursue new revenue streams, continue to advocate with state lawmakers, and keep the taxes within our limited control at the lowest reasonable rate for our stakeholders. We must create opportunities for our whole community to work together for future planning.
What would your top priorities be if you are elected?
While always supporting improved academic achievement for all students—which is our “why”—top priorities will be creating capacity and sustainability in our budget to better compensate staff, unifying the community through improved transparency and collaborative decision-making, and working with new leadership on a vision and plan for the future.

Why are you running for office?
I am running for GCISD trustee to bring experienced, steady leadership. Having worked in financially challenged districts, I will help strengthen enrollment, engage families and the community, and retain great staff while building a clear, sustainable vision for our schools that prioritizes student success, fiscal responsibility, transparency, collaboration and trust.
What are the biggest challenges facing the district?
Declining enrollment threatens financial stability, as revenue depends on attendance and accurate forecasting. Stronger community communication is needed to align programs with student and family demand and to market them effectively. Addressing these areas together is essential to sustain enrollment and long-term viability through a coordinated, data-informed strategy.
How do you plan to address these issues?
We will analyze why 1,500 students do not attend GCISD, expand targeted outreach to families with young children and clearly showcase district programs. Increasing enrollment will strengthen funding, while data-driven, innovative initiatives will advance our mission and long-term success with measurable outcomes, partnerships, accountability, transparency and community trust.
What would your top priorities be if you are elected?
My top priorities are ensuring a balanced 2026–2027 budget, reengaging families who have left the district, and restoring or reimagining programs that attract and retain students. By listening to the community and supporting innovation, we can strengthen enrollment and long-term district stability with transparency, accountability and measurable results.
