Residents wishing to run for Grapevine City Council in the May 2025 general election can now file for candidacy.

In a nutshell

Places 3 and 4 on the Grapevine City Council will be up for election in May, according to the city’s website. Grapevine residents can file to run for office between Jan. 15 and Feb. 14, according to a filing notice posted online.

Those planning to file for candidacy must meet certain qualifications for office including:
  • Must have lived in Grapevine for at least six months prior to the election date
  • Must not owe back taxes to the city
  • Must be a qualified voter
The City Secretary’s office will accept applications for candidacy until 5 p.m. Feb. 14. Interested residents can find an application form on the city website along with other instructional information for potential candidates.

Residents looking to apply can:
  • File applications in person at Grapevine City Hall
  • Mail the application to Grapevine City Secretary’s Office, P.O. Box 95104, Grapevine, TX 76099

Up for election


Grapevine City Council members are elected at large to three-year terms. The council is made up of six council members and a mayor, according to the city’s website.

Council member Leon Leal currently holds Place 3 on the Grapevine City Council. He was first elected to the position in 2019. Council member Darlene Freed currently holds Place 4 on the council. She was first elected to the position in 1998, according to the city’s website.

Looking ahead

The 2025 general election will be held May 3. Early in-person voting is expected to start April 22 and run through April 29.


Unregistered residents wishing to vote need to register by April 3. Residents can check their voter registration status via Tarrant County’s website.
