Carroll ISD trustees voted unanimously during their June 2 meeting to hold a special election this November to fill the Place 3 seat vacated when Dudley Jordan resigned.

The details

Board President Cameron Bryan said holding a special election rather than the board simply appointing a person to fill the vacant position sends a message that the community should be the ones determining who should fill that spot.

“Unlike previous boards that always set precedent by always appointing someone to fill an unexpired term, this board made a commitment to do things differently,” Bryan said. “The community, not the board, should choose who represents them.”

Bryan said Texas education code states that a board must appoint a new member no more than 180 days after a board member resigns or call for an election on the next election date.

For those wishing to run for the position, Superintendent Jeremy Glenn said filing will occur in August.

What they’re saying

“Anybody at all can come forward [to run],” Place 7 Trustee Andrew Yeager said. “It’s healthy to have elections and I fully support that.”

“I will always be in support of our community choosing a representative to be their voice,” Place 1 Trustee Christy Stacy said.
