The Grapevine-Colleyville ISD board of trustees named Mandy Ozuna, an employee of the district since 2020, as the new director of counseling at their regular board meeting March 25.

The backstory

According to a district news release, Ozuna began her career in education as an elementary teacher in Grand Prairie ISD. She switched gears after five years in the classroom, and began serving as a math and science strategist and elementary school counselor for Grand Prairie ISD.

Ozuna joined GCISD as a high school counselor at Grapevine High School before moving into the private sector to work as a professional counselor. During that time, she also worked as an intervention counselor in Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD, according to the news release.

Upon Ozuna’s return to GCISD in 2020, the news release states that she has served in the following roles:
  • Student advocate specialist at Colleyville Middle School
  • Coordinator of student engagement and multitiered systems of support for the district
What they’re saying

“Mandy’s experience serving at all levels within education, coupled with her focus on supporting student and staff growth, are some of the many reasons she will make a positive impact in her new role,” Superintendent Brad Schnautz said. “She has a heart for helping students and families, and I’m excited for her to continue serving our GCISD community.”

The news release states that Ozuna earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, and a Master of Arts in professional counseling from Argosy University. She begins her new position in July.

“My greatest professional joy has always come at the hands of being a part of the world of counseling and working with students and their families,” Ozuna shared. “This opportunity brings everything full circle to be able to lead other counselors in their support roles and enhance programming for students across the district.”
