Grapevine High School, located at 3223 Mustang Drive, will be the site for the third annual Esports Rocket League tournament on Dec. 2.

The details

According to a district news release, middle and high school teams from across Texas typically participate in the event. This year’s event—which is co-hosted by Vanta Texas League—will take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The news release stated a couple more items about the tournament including:
  • More than $10,000 in prizes will be awarded to top teams
  • Gaming equipment maker Alienware—a subsidiary of Dell—will be on site loaning demo devices for the tournament
The backstory

Esports tournaments are designed for schools and academic associations. According to the news release, youth esports platforms and leagues offer benefits to participants including:
  • Inspiration for future esports leaders
  • Teaching team building
  • Providing a forum to practice articulate communication
  • Promoting strategic thinking
The news release stated that GCISD offers esports classes at Colleyville Heritage High School, Grapevine High School and district middle schools. Last year, over 50 teams competed at the GCISD event.
