A change in the design plans for Rock & Brews has also pushed back the opening from the summer of 2023.

Plans were altered for the Grapevine restaurant and bar June 20 during a join planning and zoning and council meeting.

The changes came almost two full years after the initial plans for the location at 440 W. Hwy. 114 was approved by council in July 2021, according to previous reporting.

What’s happening?

The location was scheduled to be 9,000 square feet but will reduced because of the design changes. The building will sit next to Son of a Butcher and Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen. The revisions the building will impact elevations and floor plan, according to documents.
  • Removed the to-go area
  • Relocate a cooler, freezer and utility room
  • Reduce outdoor dining area by 24 seats on the east side of the building
  • Add landscaping
  • The building will be reduced by 137 square feet with the changes.
The backstory


Rock & Brews was co-founded by Kiss rock band members Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons. The restaurant features several beers on tap as well as burgers, wings, pizza and more, according to previous reporting. There are currently 21 locations nationwide in seven states and two in Texas: San Antonio and The Colony, according to the website.

Current situation

The original plans called for the business to be open by May 2023 when construction started in November 2022. However, the construction is in the dirt-moving phase as of July 7. According to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the estimated completion date of the $5 million project is now Dec. 31.
