Colleyville residents do not have to travel far to get an authentic taste of the Windy City with casual diner Chicago Signature serving hot dogs, sandwiches and something altogether unique—an avocado shake.

Partners Mohanad Omar, Sahm Khater and Muhannad Khateeb came from the Chicago suburb of Oak Lawn and opened Chicago Signature on Feb. 19 on SH 26, featuring popular items such as the Chicago-style hot dog, the Philly sandwich and the Italian beef sandwich.

“It’s messy,” Omar said. “There’s a saying: If the sandwich is so messy, then it tastes so good.”

Staying true to the familiar flavors of Chicago, the restaurant uses meat from the Vienna Beef
company—a familiar staple to that area.

“Most of the Chicagoans when they come here, they see Vienna Beef—it’s heaven for us,” Omar said. “It’s different from [any] hot dog you’ve ever eaten in your life.”

Chicago Signature also offers items such as the veggie Philly sandwich for vegetarians, as well as an alternative meal option for health-conscious customers: the avocado shake—a creation of Omar’s own making.

“I was looking for something healthy to replace a full meal,” he said. “It contains carbohydrates, proteins and fat from the avocado, so it’s a whole meal … [there are] cashews on top, there’s honey and whipped cream also.”

Before the restaurant opened there were limited options for Chicago fare in the Dallas region, and despite the challenges associated with ongoing SH 26 construction work, the diner has garnered positive customer feedback for its quality food online and on social media, Omar said.

Omar said he is optimistic business will increase after mobility in the region improves. For now, the restaurant is working to bring the best of Chicago to the community.
