A new luxury car storage facility is coming to Colleyville.
City Council approved the second reading for a rezoning request to allow for vehicle storage, retail, office and warehouse uses on two properties by a 6-0 vote during the June 16 meeting. Council member Tim Raine was absent from the meeting.
What’s happening
The commercial development will include four buildings, according to the site plan filed with the city. The first building, which is 21,000 square feet, and the second, which is 31,830 square feet, will include retail and restaurant, flex-warehouse, office and flex spaces, per city documents.
The third and fourth buildings, both of which are 24,000 square feet, will house the Garages of America storage condominiums. Each condo space will be purchased individually, said Ben Bryner, Colleyville’s director of community development.
Units within Garages of America have plumbing and heating, and are wired for phone, cable and internet service, according to the company’s website.
Last October, council approved the sale of a 3.81-acre property along SH 26 for the development.

In total, there were 22 responses received against the development, Bryner said.
Resident Darin Szilagyi voiced concerns about the compatibility of the development near residences, which differs from other parts of Colleyville.
“It will not resemble the one-story commercial facilities that people like in Tuscany and other locations along the corridor deal with,” Szilagyi said. “This one is significantly larger. It will be highly visible behind our homes for decades to come. What makes this unique is the other types of the facilities, inclusive of the new capacity that’s being put on Mustang [Drive], are fully bordered by commercial properties, not by homes."
Mayor Bobby Lindamood spoke in favor of the project, highlighting the ability to get something developed on the property along SH 26.
“We got the opportunity to bring something that’s really special into the city,” Mayor Bobby Lindamood said. “When we denied the gas station, it sat there for years; nobody would even look at it because they thought they wouldn’t be able to work with us.”

Garages of America operates several other facilities across North Texas, including in Plano, Frisco and Allen.
