Grapevine is finishing up improvements to city sidewalks and the lighting of public parking lots and streets.

Grapevine City Council unanimously approved $275,000 at its Sept. 6 meeting to complete the improvements. Funding is available through the city’s Capital Projects Street Fund, according to a city memo.

The goal is to improve the pedestrian experience during the upcoming holiday season in downtown Grapevine, the memo stated. The city is planning its annual Christmas Capital of Texas festivities, which will include an outdoor ice rink this year.

“[City staff] has been making other improvements over the last several years around the downtown area,” John D. Robertson, Grapevine’s development, engineering and construction manager, said in the meeting. “This will be a continuation of those improvements.”

Lighting fixtures will have 4000K LED bulbs, city documents stated. Lighting improvements will be completed in over 10 public parking lots, including the City Hall lot, the lot near Palace Arts Center and the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau lot.

The construction of sidewalks will be completed along areas of South Main Street, South Church Street, South Barton Street and Jenkins Street.

Robertson said about half of the lighting projects are completed, and the city expects to finish the rest by Thanksgiving.
