McKinney offers free emergency preparedness bags at 2 locations

McKinney residents can pick up a free emergency preparedness kit at one of two city locations this month.

McKinney’s Office of Emergency Management has distributed more than 1,700 free emergency preparedness bags to two locations:

• John and Judy Gay Library, 6861 Eldorado Parkway

• McKinney Senior Recreation Center, 1400 S. College St.

The bags are available to residents on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last, according to a city news release. The Office of Emergency Management distributed the bags to mark National Preparedness Month in September.

Each year, the office distributes the bags to educate residents about local hazards and help them prepare their households for emergencies, according to the news release.

Bags include materials available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese or Hindi. Bag contents may include:

• Information about local hazards

• Emergency supply checklist

• Educational materials or preparedness activities

• A pen or crayons

• Bandages

• Ice scraper
