At tonight’s Grapevine City Council meeting, a public hearing will be held related to single-family dwelling transient units, or short-term rentals.

A short-term or vacation rental involves renting a furnished home or apartment usually for an overnight stay. Through companies such as Airbnb and HomeAway homeowners can advertise their properties on the business’s website to allow potential vacationers to make reservations.

Following the public hearing council will consider adopting a new article to Chapter 14 of the City Code of Ordinances regarding short-term rentals.

At a public forum during the council meeting Aug. 21 a number of residents stepped forward to discuss this topic, all asking the council to take action against short-term rental properties in Grapevine. Many said the vacationers disrupt the everyday lifestyle of the neighborhood with excessive parking and loud activities.

In Grapevine there are five properties listed on Airbnb. One listing for a three-bedroom home is advertised as able to host up to 15 guests.

The regular Grapevine City Council meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m.
