With a 5-2 vote on Tuesday night, Grapevine City Council voted to remove the Heritage Avenue bridge connection over Big Bear Creek from the city's master thoroughfare plan.

Council members Chris Coy and Duff O'Dell voted to keep the bridge in the plan.

The removal of the bridge from the plan was prompted by the council's decision Aug. 10 to not place the bridge on the November bond election ballot.

O'Dell said time should be given to the new public works director for him to conduct studies and analyze the need for the connection.

Mayor William D. Tate said the last public works director suggested the bridge be taken off the plan as it would turn into a major highway.

"It doesn't matter what the public works director says; we listen to the people," Tate said.
