Among the items up for consideration on the Grapevine City Council's agenda Tuesday night was the removal of the construction of a Heritage Avenue bridge from the list of proposed bond projects.

In a report by City Manager Bruno Rumbelow, it was stated the recommendation to remove the project came after hearing several residents speak out against the project at the council's June 6 meeting and after speaking to the council individually.

Prior to the council considering removal of the project, it heard from several residents: some who were for the project and some who were not.

Several residents suggested a public hearing on the bridge should be held while others suggested the bridge be listed separately from other bond projects on the ballot.

When it came time to discuss removal of the project, Council Member Darlene Freed said she did not think a public hearing to decide whether to put the bridge on the bond was needed.

"I trust the voters to make a good decision," Freed said. "To have a public hearing about whether or not to put on the bond seems to me a little redundant."

Ultimately, the council decided not to remove the bridge from the list of proposed bond projects. It decided to hold a public hearing July 17 to discuss and inform all residents on potential bond projects and have voters make the decision on what gets passed.

The location of the public hearing has not been announced.

If the bond is called, Election Day is Nov. 7.
