Gary Fawks has resigned from the Southlake City Council.[/caption] Southlake City Council Member Gary Fawks, who was recently re-elected to the Place 6 seat, was suppose to be sworn in for another term at Tuesday night's council meeting. However, he announced he is resigning from City Council because of a job promotion. Fawks stated in a letter to Council that it has been a “pleasure to serve with such a great group of dedicated public servants and a first class city staff over the past three years. Leaving the council at this time was one of a number of things that made the decision to accept this position one of the most difficult I have ever made.” The next steps to elect a council member for Place 6 include calling a special election by the City Council. The election will likely take place by late summer, with the new Place 6 member sworn in soon after. The call for a special election will take place at a future Council meeting. There will then be a specified filing period for candidates, voter registration, as well as an early voting period leading up to a special election day.
