Sonic Drive-In celebrated its 50th anniversary in Grapevine with $0.50 deals of special drinks and appetizers.

Grapevine Mayor William D. Tate was at the ceremony, just as he was in 1975 when Terri and Rick Ervin opened the original location. Sonic General Manager David Johnson said the current location opened in 1999.

The Ervins still own and operate the location, and the celebration included cakes with images of the original store.

Sonic offered $0.50 junior cheeseburgers, corn dogs, hot dogs, vanilla ice cream and small cherry limeades as part of the anniversary special.
