H-E-B/Central Market announced Feb. 8 that it sold its properties in Grapevine and McKinney to Safeway, which owns Tom Thumb, Randalls and Albertsons. Safeway spokesperson Connie Yates said both locations will be reverted back to Tom Thumb stores, which they previously were before they were sold in December 2014 to Minyard Sun Fresh Market. "We are most excited and looking forward to serve both of those great communities," she said. "We do not currently have a timeline for them to open [but we are] hoping for late spring." The locations are at SH 121 and Hall Johnson Road in Grapevine and at Hardin Boulevard and El Dorado Parkway in McKinney. These stores are in the group of six stores that Central Market purchased in September. H-E-B/Central Market officials said they purchased the six locations in order to make two of the locations into Central Markets. “We purchased the entire package of properties in order to acquire the Midway Road and McKinney and Lemmon Avenue [Dallas] locations,” said Mabrie Jackson, director of public affairs at Central Market, in a news release. “We have since sold the Mockingbird Lane and Abrams Road location to Lincoln Properties, and plans for the remaining three stores are under evaluation. However, these will likely be sold or leased to other retail tenants.”
