The details
St. Matthew’s Conservatory of Classical Dance will offer pre-professional ballet training for students ages 9-18. The conservatory is rooted in Christian values but is open to families of all faiths and backgrounds, according to a news release.
St. Matthew’s trains dancers in “dynamic, musical, and technically demanding style” developed by George Balanchine, a ballet choreographer from the 20th century, the release states.
St. Matthew’s offers daily technique, pointe and repertoire classes as well as academic and physical education courses, including:
- Anatomy and kinesiology for dancers
- Injury prevention and conditioning
- Pilates for the pre-professional dancer
- Music theory for dancers
- Dance history and classical repertoire
St. Matthew's co-owner and Artistic Director Matthew Cole said classes range from $25-30 an hour and merit-based scholarships are available for a limited amount of students. Auditions are required for placement.
The conservatory is hosting classes temporarily at Vine City Sports, formerly known as The Block, for the 2025-26 school year, Cole said. He is looking at spaces across Grapevine, Southlake and Colleyville for a permanent address.
“I’ve taught all over the world and these are some of the nicest facilities I’ve ever taught in,” Cole said. “It’s going to make it difficult for us when we build our own. We’re going to have to match what [Vine City Sports] has already created.”
