Joann, a national fabrics and craft store, closed its Grapevine location permanently at the beginning of June.

What’s happening?

The company announced Feb. 23 it was being sold to GA Group due to its second bankruptcy filing in less than a year. Five hundred locations across the country were going to be shut down originally, but now all 800 locations will close, according to previous Community Impact reporting.

Michaels Companies Inc. announced June 5 it acquired the intellectual property and private label brands of Joann. Customers who try to reach the Joann website are now redirected to the Michaels website.

“We’re honored to have the opportunity to welcome Joann customers into our creative community and are committed to delivering the selection, value, and inspiration they are looking for at Michaels,” Michaels Chief Executive Officer David Boon said in a news release. “This acquisition allows us to better serve both new and existing customers, respond to rising demand across categories and build on our momentum as the destination for creating and celebrating in North America.”

The closest Michaels for Grapevine residents is in Southlake.
