The 3rd annual Grapevine Lake Celtic Heritage Festival and Highland Games will be held Saturday, April 22 at Meadowmere Park in Grapevine.

The event will run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 3000 Meadowere Lane at Grapevine Lake.

More than 100 athletes from across the country will converge on Grapevine for the International Highland Games Federation Texas Open Championships. A Scottish pipe and drum band will give way to the opening ceremony at 8 a.m. and the competition will start at 9 a.m.

Each athlete will throw in all nine events and the lowest score will win, much like in golf.

The event started by drawing three years ago by drawing 325 spectators. In 2022, around 2,500 showed up and around 5,000 are expected this year.


The event is put on by the Highland Arts & Athletics, a 501c3 non-profit. Proceeds from this festival benefit The Grapevine Shield Foundation, which was established in 2008 to aid the family members of police officers and firefighters who are killed or injured in the line of duty, according to the website.

The cost is $5 for those 12 and over and parking is $10.
