The first golf championship to be played near the new PGA of America headquarters in Frisco is just over a year away.

The 2023 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship will be played May 23-28, 2023, PGA officials announced May 2. The announcement comes as the new four-story PGA headquarters nears completion and employees begin to arrive.

Jason Mengel, championship director of the 83rd KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, said the entire PGA Frisco complex is slated to open in April of next year. PGA Frisco will include a 500-room Omni Resort called Omni PGA Frisco Resort alongside complementary golf-themed restaurants and retail stores.

The senior PGA championship will serve as an opportunity for Frisco-based companies to come out and entertain guests, according to Mengel. He said he expects millions of dollars in economic gain from the several championships in years to come.

“We’re writing a championship history out here,” Mengel said. “I think anytime you're looking to start something from the ground up, certainly there's going to be inherent challenges along the way. But we've got a great team who's been in the market for years now building relationships.”

A total of 26 championships are scheduled over a 13-year span at Fields Ranch East, including two PGA Championships in 2027 and 2034, a PGA news release stated.
