A new communal space for Frisco residents to grow vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers is opening soon.

The Harvest at Frisco Commons offers residents and volunteers a space for produce and public education, according to an announcement from the city’s parks and recreation department, Play Frisco.

Small garden boxes measuring 4 feet by 10 feet cost $75 per year in a one-time, non-refundable fee to be paid online. Large boxes measuring 4 feet by 20 feet are also available for Frisco organizations, costing $150 per year. All undivided large garden boxes are for Frisco organizations only, according to Play Frisco.

In special cases, garden boxes may be leased mid-year at a reduced price, to be prorated by month, according to Play Frisco.

A grand opening special allows gardeners to receive an initial lease period of October 2021 through December 2022, which includes three additional months of gardening for free.

In addition, a “pollinator ring” surrounding the garden will be planted with native and adaptive plants to provide ecological benefits. Play Frisco says the ring will increase produce yields in the garden.

Gardeners are encouraged to donate surplus produce to support Frisco families in need. Those looking to donate can contact the Frisco Family Services Market for facility hours and donation drop-off procedures.

A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 9-10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 8000 McKinney Road, Frisco.
