Community blood center Carter BloodCare issued a critical alert for blood supply Jan. 12 with less than a day’s supply of some blood types available.

The gist

The nonprofit supplies blood to more than 200 hospitals across 57 Texas counties, including Collin, Denton, Dallas and Tarrant counties. If blood is not readily available, medical procedures can be postponed, forcing patients to wait longer, according to a news release.

Blood supply can be tracked via Carter BloodCare’s website. The nonprofit has a need for several blood types and platelets as of Jan. 16.

Potential donors can learn more about donating blood, plasma or platelets at www.carterbloodcare.org. They can schedule a time to donate at any of Carter BloodCare’s locations via the website. Through Feb. 29, each Carter BloodCare donor gets a quarter-zip pullover while supplies last, according to the news release.


Carter BloodCare is based in Bedford and supplies more than 440,000 blood products every year to hospitals across northern, central and eastern regions of Texas. The nonprofit operates blood donor centers in Frisco, McKinney, Plano and Keller.
