The details
Kaleb Breaux took over as the new Collin County elections administrator in January. He is replacing Bruce Sherbet, who retired in December after nine years in the role, according to a Jan. 27 county news release.
“I don’t feel a need to completely change any one of our processes just to say, ‘I did that.’ Instead, I’m looking forward to making small tweaks to improve efficiency and excellence,” Breaux said in the release.
The Collin County Elections Commission unanimously approved Breaux’s appointment. The commission included County Judge Chris Hill, County Clerk Stacey Kemp, Tax Assessor-Collector Scott Grigg, and the chairs of both the Republican and Democratic parties in Collin County.
One of Breaux’s main priorities is building trust in the election process, according to the release. He looks to add programs like an election academy launched in Guadalupe County, which educates citizens about election procedures.
The background
Breaux has served in election administration since 2006 when he started as an elections coordinator in Jefferson County, according to the release. He also has a background in public relations and journalism, according to the release.
Looking ahead
This May, Breaux will oversee his first election as the head of the Office of Elections Administrator in Collin County. The May 3 election includes races in Frisco, Prosper, Celina, McKinney, Plano and Richardson.
