College leaders along with city of Frisco officials celebrated a construction milestone as the final beam was lifted and placed on top of the Health Sciences Center during a topping-out ceremony held Dec. 3, according to a college news release. The 120,000-square-foot center will provide additional space for the college's current health science programs while creating spaces for new programs.
The project is estimated to cost approximately $71.8 million and is expected to open in spring 2027.
"Great progress has been made toward creating this innovative learning environment,” Collin College district President Neil Matkin said in the release. “We can all be proud of contributing to a Health Sciences Center that will offer high-demand programs that align with local workforce needs. It’s a win for our students, for our healthcare partners and for the community who will benefit from receiving care from well-trained, highly qualified healthcare professionals.”
About the project
The new facility will include a three-story building with classrooms, clinical laboratories, faculty offices, conference rooms and collaboration areas for students.
The center’s first floor will house new radiology and imaging programs. The second floor will be dedicated to nursing with hands-on simulation technology and lab space. Once opened, the center will have about 34,000 square feet of shell space that will house future programs in the next five to 10 years, Matkin previously told Community Impact.
“As a board, we work together to support the many great things happening at Collin College,” said Andrew Hardin, treasurer of the Collin College board of trustees. “Today it is just beams, but January 2027 will be here before you know it and soon we will be offering additional health science programs in Frisco, in ultra-modern facilities, at Collin College prices.”
The Health Sciences Center was designed by PBK Architects and is being built by McCarthy Building Companies with AECOM serving as the owner’s representative.
